James E Herrington, OD
1931 - 1999
James E. Herrington, O.D., died September 20, 1999, following a lengthy illness. During his 37 years of optometric practice, Dr. Herrington served both his patients and his profession as well.
Considered a mentor to many optometrists and young practitioners, Dr. Herrington was fondly known as "Poppa Jim" by his colleagues. In 1997, the Southern Council of Optometrists named him "O.D. of the South." The nomination described his approach to the profession: "Dr. Herrington is the epitome of a caring, compassionate, ethical and considerate health care professional. He cares for his patients, his community, and optometry and willingly gives of his time to assist where needed. He is well-respected by his peers."
Dr. Herrington is survived by his wife, Sally, daughter, Lisa Herrington, O.D., and son, Michael Herrington, M.D.
